Our Company History
A Tuscorara/Cherokee mother, Scarlett RedEagle Bowes, is the founding member of Omnicity. Her motivation was the experience with her oldest son. At age three, he was diagnosed as ADHD. He was labled borderline retarded and placed in special education classes since kindergarten. As the years went on, he was lableled psychotic, schizoaffective, opositional defiant, depressed, and bi-polar. When he was eight, Scarlett was told there was no hope and that she should make him a ward of the state.
At that moment, she dedicated herself to find answers and bring forth what she had learned to benefit others. She was guided to begin research into the role of nutrition and environmental factors. Her Masters thesis is in the Library of Congress, and she is currently working on her PhD.
Many things she tried helped her son's body heal, but his spirit was broken. He had been told he was stupid, crazy and bad for so many years that he believed it was true. Something more was needed: balance, wholeness, awareness, self-determination.
Omnicity's mission statement, as it matured, has come from the combined voices of community members in Central Virginia who have the unending desire to help our children and families heal, grow and reach a brighter future.
